Alistair Overeems head coach comments on the fighters departure from Strikeforce

Martin de Jong, the head coach of former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, has been giving his reaction to the news that the California based promotion has axed “The Reem” from their roster this past week, explaining he’s very disappointed at the news.
Speaking via MixFight.nl, de Jong said:
“I was very disappointed when I heard the news… I did not see this coming and I was sure everything would be ok. Especially after seeing the interview Dana White gave to the press saying Alistair was out of the tournament but still under contract.”
“Alistair really wanted to participate and win the Strikeforce tournament. Its a prestigious tournament and he was very happy to be part of it. He also had the best prospect to win this tournament according to many fans and of course we believed it as well. The problem is that he is injured and not able to be ready and fight on September 10th in the semi finals.
“Don’t forget that Big Foot Silva is a very dangerous fighter so Alistair needs to be 100%. Also we have doctors statements to prove he is injured and can’t be ready for September 10th. Look up ‘Alistair Overeem – An Online Documentary’ and check out the latest episode.”
The next move in the career of Overeem will be an interesting one as he’s currently the K-1 World Grand Prix champion and DREAM heavyweight champion, as well as him vying for a switch over to boxing for a big fight inside the ring. Stay tuned to MMABay for more build-up to this one as we get it.
