5 Matches Ticketed for Shark Fights 18 on Aug. 19

The fight card for Shark Fights 18 continues to develop, as five fights have now been slated for the promotion’s first effort in the state of Nevada.

In the main event, ex-UFC talent Shane Nelson will square off with King of the Cage staple Aaron Wetherspoon in a lightweight scrap. Meanwhile, former Maximum Fighting Championship light heavyweight king Emanuel Newton will lock horns with onetime Shark Fights competitor Ricky Shivers in the co-headliner. The event will air on Fuel TV via tape delay.

Going down Aug. 19 from the JA Nugget Resort and Casino in Reno, Nev., Shark Fights 18 will also feature a heavyweight confrontation between journeyman Ruben Villareal and Gladiator Challenge vet Dave Huckaba. Additionally, the card will offer up a 205-pound tilt pitting Adriano Camolese against Roy Boughton, as well as a featherweight conflict between Alexander Crispin and Randy Spence.

After going two-for-two early in his UFC career, Nelson (Pictured, file photo) was bounced from the promotion following consecutive losses to Aaron Riley and Matt Wiman in 2009. “Sugar” recently rebounded from those losses by submitting Jai Bradney with a guillotine choke in March. Nearly a seven-year veteran of the sport, Nelson has never been finished as a professional.

Wetherspoon recently returned from more than two years on the sidelines to earn a unanimous decision over Nick Reale in February. The former King of the Cage welterweight champion competed 10 times for the organization in his six years as a professional, notching a promotional record of 7-2 with one no-contest. Nicknamed “Slam,” the Team Oyama export has finished five of his eight career victims by knockout or submission.
