It was the entire reason for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 13 Finale (June 4, 2011) as two talented young welterweights, Ramsey Nijem and Anthony Ferguson, squared off for the right to become the next "Ultimate Fighter."
In a surprising role reversal, Nijem, who primarily used his grappling and clinch to dominate opponents on the show, came out guns blazing.
Ferguson, who finished every opponent with strikes during this past season, showcased his excellent Division II national champion wrestling skills early to keep Nijem at bay.
It was Ferguson's gameplan that paid dividends late in the first round when Nijem, potentially worrying about a takedown from "El Cucoy," was clipped and finished shortly thereafter.
Ferguson landed a huge right hand flush on Ramsey's chin that dropped the Pit Elevated fighter. He didn't give him a chance to recover, quickly swarming him with ground and pound to force referee Josh Rosenthal to stop the fight.
A clearly devastated Ramsey Nijem sat with his head in his hands on the cage floor while he watched his counterpart celebrate.
With the victory, Ferguson was declared the winner of season 13 of The Ultimate Fighter and emotionally declared that he brought a lot of demons with him into the cage.
His big win should do a lot to overcome his ugly behavior during the season's final few episodes and it looks as though this kid may have the overall skills to make an impact in the welterweight division.
