Success rarely comes easy and glory is attained only through hardship.
Perhaps no one knows this better than UFC 130 main card winners Frank Mir and Brian Stann.
The former dominated his friend and sometimes training partner, Roy Nelson, with a varied attack that including an impressive 82-46 striking advantage and an even stronger grappling game.
The latter absolutely decimated his foe, Jorge Santiago, via superior Americanism and two vicious hands that may or may not be classified as deadly weapons.
Those two victories could catapult both men up the ranks of their respective divisions, potentially straight into top contender fights ... or maybe even a title shot.
It came with a heavy price, however.
It was announced at the post-fight press conference that Mir suffered both a broken jaw and a busted rib, while Stann battled through a fractured thumb.
Amazing when you consider the total amount of punishment dished out to "Big Country" and "Sandman," respectively.
On top of that, Quinton Jackson entered the night with a jacked up hand. Insurance? What insurance?
