Injuries happen -- but time heals all wounds.
The recently scrapped UFC 130 main event, which was set to feature Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard in their third -- and likely final -- meeting, has been postponed to a date later this year, likely late summer/early fall.
"(The injuries) are not that serious," said UFC President Dana White. "They're going to be out like six to eight weeks. So if everything goes right and they heal the same, who knows, maybe we can do this fight in August or September."
There are currently five events rumored for those two months: UFC 133 in Philadelphia, UFC 134 in Brazil, UFC on Versus 5 in Milwaukee, UFC Fight Night 25 in New Orleans and UFC 135 in Denver.
Only one of those cards, the promotion's return to Brazil, has a main event set in stone.
Oh, the joys of flexibility. Anyone care to guess which event this fight is headed for? Have a preference?
After five grueling rounds and one surprising decision between UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar and undefeated number one contender Gray Maynard, we still don't have a "Resolution" to the division's blurry title picture.
Expect that to change just as soon as they both heal up from their respective injuries.
After enduring a "Bully" beatdown in the first round of their UFC 125 headliner back on Jan. 1, Edgar somehow rebounded to battle Maynard to an unsatisfying draw after five rounds. It was a fantastic fight, which was a rematch that looked nothing like their original encounter back in 2008 that Maynard won convincingly with superior wrestling and raw power.
He came about as close as anyone could to finding "The Answer" to finishing Edgar. And perhaps that's the reason why he'll get a third chance to try it again, sometime this year.
