It appears the proposed lightweight bout between DREAM champion, Shinya Aoki and Willamy Freire is off for the DREAM 17 card on May 29th in Saitama, Japan, although MFC champion, Antonio McKee could be about to step up to the plate.
Sources close to the situation revealed the news to MMAWeekly.com earlier today, adding verbal agreements are in place on both sides with the official paperwork set to be issued shortly.
Aoki has competed this year in the MMA arena, defeating Lyle Beerbohm via first round rear-naked choke inside the Strikeforce cage. That went someway to erase the disastrous Dynamite!! 2010 showing when he was brutally knocked out by Yuichiro Nagashima.
McKee hasn’t fought since he dropped his UFC debut back in January to Jacob Volkman on New Year’s Day. He was due to defend his title against Drew Fickett in February but an injury forced him to pull out.
