Bantamweights Ivan Menjivar vs. Nick Pace slated for UFC 133

After losing original opponent Michael McDonald (12-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) due to a booking shuffle, bantamweight Nick Pace (6-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) now is slated to fight replacement Ivan Menjivar (22-8 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at UFC 133 in August.

Officials announced the booking overnight.

UFC 133 takes place Aug. 6 at Philadelphia's Well Fargo Center, and the night's main card airs on pay-per-view. Menjivar vs. Pace likely will be part of a preliminary card that airs on Spike TV or streams on Facebook.

Initially, Pace was slated to fight McDonald at UFC 133. However, McDonald ultimately replaced injured Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto and now meets Chris Cariaso at UFC 130.

Pace recently made his UFC debut and submitted Will Campuzano with a modified choke (that he dubbed "the Pace Choke") on the preliminary card of The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale. The victory followed a unanimous-decision loss to Demetrious Johnson in Pace's only WEC appearance, which came at WEC 51. Before signing with Zuffa, the New York-based fighter was a bantamweight champ of the Northeast-based Ring of Combat organization.

Menjivar made a single UFC appearance as a lightweight back in 2004, when he suffered a decision loss to Matt Serra at UFC 48. The Salvadoran-Canadian then went 8-3 for organizations such as the IFL and K-1 HERO'S and then signed with the WEC. He then dropped a decision to Brad Pickett at WEC 53 and was moved to the UFC. This past month at UFC 129, he scored a TKO victory over Charlie Valencia (via vicious elbow strike) for his 17th stoppage victory in 22 career wins.

The latest UFC 133 card now includes:

  • Phil Davis vs. Rashad Evans
  • Champ Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes (for featherweight title)*
  • Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Vitor Belfort
  • Rich Franklin vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
  • Johny Hendricks vs. Mike Pierce
  • Jorge Rivera vs. Alessio Sakara
  • Alexander Gustafsson vs. Vladimir Matyushenko
  • Mike Brown vs. Nam Phan
  • Ivan Menjivar vs. Nick Pace
  • Brian Ebersole vs. Dennis Hallman
  • Riki Fukuda vs. Rafael "Sapo" Natal
* - Not officially announced
