UFC 134: Ross Pearson vs Edson Barboza booked for 'Rio' on Aug. 27
Looks like Ross Pearson is no longer waiting for his phone to ring.
That's because the stocky (but not cocky) UFC lightweight and Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 9 winner has been booked to fight the undefeated Edson Barboza at UFC 134 from the HSBC Arena in "Rio" on August 27.
"The Real Deal," who brought word of the pending match-up late last night, recently suffered his first loss inside the Octagon, a stunning submission loss to Cole Miller at UFC Fight Night 22 last September in Austin, Texas.
He rebounded by outpointing Spencer "The King" Fisher at UFC 127: "Penn vs. Fitch" back in February and has since been vocal about getting back into the 155-pound title hunt.
A convincing win over Barboza would certainly be a good start.
Of course that's easier said than done. The Brazilian has been steamrolling the opposition and seven of his eight wins have come by way of stoppage, including five first rounders.
Barboza was last seen taking a unanimous decision from Anthony Njokuani in an exciting slugfest at UFC 128: "Shogun vs. Jones" back in March.
UFC: "Rio" will feature middleweight champion Anderson Silva defending his title in a long-awaited rematch against the last man to defeat him in mixed martial arts, Yushin "Thunder" Okami.
Mauricio "Shogun" Rua will also fight for the first time since losing the light heavyweight title when he takes on former champion Forrest Griffin in a rematch of their UFC 76 bout.
