UFC 133 – Phil Davis shocked and surprised about facing Rashad Evans next, looking forward to the fight

UFC light heavyweight prospect, Phil Davis has revealed he was both shocked and surprised that he got the call to face current number one contender, Rashad Evans inside the octagon next, but he’s looking forward to the challenge of the fight all the same.
Speaking via MMAJunkie.com, Davis said:
“I was shocked; I was surprised. I was very thankful that they thought of me as the next guy to get that calibre of fight. His name wasn’t one of the ones I was looking to fight next. But it looks like it’s next on the list, so it looks like we have a date.
“I don’t know that this is the timeframe I was looking for. But it’s a great opportunity and a great chance to further my career.”
As for Davis, he has been making waves of late, defeating the likes of Antonio Rogerio Nogueira earlier this year in a dominant display of wrestling. The NCAA credentialed fighter could be the perfect foil for Evans to test himself against with many comparing certain elements of his game to that of the current champ.
