Former UFC light heavyweight champion, Chuck Liddell has predicted that his close friend and former training partner, Jake Shields will shock the world and become the new welterweight champion of the world, taking current champion, Georges St. Pierre to the ground before finishing him off. Speaking via MMAFighting.com, Liddell said:
“I’m siding with Jake. Jake’s going to have to take him down. I’m expecting him to be in great shape for the fight. He’ll be in great shape for GSP. But yeah, I expect him to take him down and finish him.”
Liddell spoke about the first time he met Shields, a fighter he remembers was always wanting to work in the gym right up until the eleventh hour.“He had athletic ability, I knew he was very tough and he always wanted to work. He was always in the gym working on new things, working with people. We’d always say, ‘Relax, you have a fight in a couple days. Just relax.’”
Shields will have to walk over hot coals when he steps into the octagon with St. Pierre next Saturday night as he will be fighting in front of 55,000 Canadian fans, the largest attendance for a UFC event in the promotions history. Will he be able to cause the upset and defeat “Rush” for the title or will GSP prove why he is considered one of the best in the world.
