Jake Shields says he’ll never fight team mate Nick Diaz, the two will change weight classes to avoid each other

UFC welterweight number one contender, Jake Shields has been dismissing the possibility of fighting Cesar Gracie team mate, Nick Diaz inside the octagon if the man from Stockton was to make a return, explaining one of them would move up or down in weight to avoid that happening.
Speaking via MMAWeekly.com, Shields said:
“Me and Nick aren’t going to fight if the belts merge. We’ll avoid each other. I’ll move up or he’ll move up, just like what we did in Strikeforce. I’m not one to sit there and stir up trouble and be like ‘I’m not going to fight,’ but we’ll find ways around it. One of us will drop down or up, we’ll avoid each other.”
“Obviously we’re not going to deadlock a weight (class), we’re the two best guys and just sit around. We’ll find away to avoid it. That was the case in Strikeforce, we were both at 170. That’s why I decided to jump up to 85. I’d be willing to jump up again if that’s the situation.”
Of course Diaz may have come up with the ultimate way of preventing a fight between him and Shields, snubbing a contract offer from Zuffa before crossing over to the world of boxing for an apparent fight before the end of the year. Is that the end of the road for Diaz as far as his MMA career is concerned or will we see him at some point back in the UFC?
