UFC 128: "Shogun vs. Jones" from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey has officially wrapped, which means that it's time for those select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights to get a little extra grease for their efforts.
To the tune of $70,000 each.
The promotion dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses to four out of the 22 fighters on the card, and it's probably no surprise who's leaving the "Garden State" with a second sack of simoleons.
For starters, it should be immediately be noted that no one is leaving "The Shore" with "Submission of the Night" bonus because, well, none of the fights on the card ended by way of the famous tap out.
All is well though, because that meant an extra "Knockout of the Night" was awarded and it's no shock who the two lucky contestants bringing home the extra coin are. Erik Koch earned his bonus by drilling Raphael Assuncao with a one-hitter quitter and ending his night in the very first round.
Brendan Schaub was the other fighter to bring in a little extra cheese, when he brought an abrupt end to his three-round battle against Mirko Filipovic with an overhand right that sent "Cro Cop" flailing to the mat. The legendary PRIDE heavyweight's career may be coming to a close but "The Hybrid" is just getting started.
Finally, Edson Barboza and Anthony Njokuani were awarded "Fight of the Night" for their thrilling back-and-forth war of attrition that saw "Junior" extended his unbeaten streak to eight over "The African Assassin" and slowly but surely continue his rise to the top.
Here are the special fight bonuses for UFC 128:
Knockout of the Night -- Brendan Schaub and Erik KochAgain, each fighter received $70,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which we will pass along as soon as possible.
Submission of the Night -- none
Fight of the Night -- Edson Barboza vs. Anthony Njokuani
