Although former UFC light heavyweight James Irvin won't be able to compete at the upcoming Shark Fights 14 event after getting popped for steroids, it seems Houston had a problem anyway.
Officials promoting the March 11 fight card in Lubbock, Texas, last night issued a statement confirming "The Sandman's" troubles with the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC).
But they also brought word of "an undisclosed injury" that kills "The Assassin's" chances of competing against a possible replacement.
From Shark Fights:
"Due to Irvin's "alleged" steroid allegations and an undisclosed injury that Houston Alexander suffered during training, we were forced to pull the bout from the Shark Fights 14 line-up. We plan to reschedule the long awaited Alexander vs. Irvin re-match in the near future and are currently wrapping up negotiations for another very compelling Shark Fights 14 co-main event. Details will be announced soon, so stay tuned!"Irvin tested positive for Epitrenbolone, a steroid typically used on livestock to increase appetite and muscle growth, after returning a positive sample taken following his Dec. 2 loss to Jorge Oliveira at Tachi Palace Fights 7: "Deck the Halls" in Lemoore, California.
He was immediately slapped with a retroactive one-year suspension but is expected to appeal.
