UFC welterweight Carlos Condit has reportedly withdrawn from his upcoming bout against Chris Lytle at the UFC 127: "Penn vs. Fitch" pay-per-view event on Feb. 26 in Sydney, Australia, after suffering a knee injury in training camp..
The incomparable Showdown Joe Ferraro brought word of the unfortunate news earlier today.
Condit (26-5) raised his stock considerably after pulverizing Dan Hardy at UFC 120 across the pond late last year. It was the third straight victory for the former WEC Welterweight Champion (and his second straight stoppage) and a win over Lytle could have made a strong argument for "The Natural Born Killer's" place among the current title contenders.
Unfortunately that opportunity will have to wait.
Lytle (30-17-5), who could be knocking on the contender's door himself, has seemingly gotten his second wind in the 170-pound division, winning four straight contests and racking up another collection of "Fight Night" bonuses.
The Indianapolis firefighter was last seen beating down a stocky and cocky Matt Serra at UFC 119 back in September 2010 and by Lytle's own admission, "it's now or never" for his run at the welterweight title.
The UFC has yet to make an official announcement and at this time, no replacement for Condit has been identified.
