Strikeforce news, Strikeforce rumours, Andrei Arlovski, Sergei Kharitonov, Andrei Arlovski vs Sergei KharitonovSpeaking via MMAFighting.com, Kharitonov said:
“To be honest with you, it’s OK for me not to get all the attention. I don’t necessarily want the attention until I prove myself and prove that I deserve the attention. I understand I haven’t fought in the United States since 2007 when I fought in Las Vegas. So people don’t know me right now, but that’s OK. I’d rather not get the attention until I do something to deserve it.”
“I don’t think I’m getting him at the right time necessarily because of the fact he’s coming off three losses, because this is a guy who, those three losses were against some of the best in the world. And before that, he had beaten some of the best in the world. So I don’t think I’m getting someone who is in any way less dangerous than he’s ever been. In fact, he’s probably more motivated that he’s coming off of those losses.”
Kharitonov also spoke about the differences of fighting inside a cage, something he’s not done in the last ten years as a professional fighter.“I think there might be a difference. It’s been a while since I fought in a cage. Last time I fought in a cage was 2001 but for me, I don’t see a major difference. I’m sure there is, but I don’t think there’s going to be any major obstacles because of it coming into this fight.”
Kharitonov is the last man to defeat current Strikeforce heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem in a mixed martial arts fight. He’s lost only once in his last five fights, which came at the hands of Jeff Monson back in April 2009. Stay tuned to MMABay in the coming days for more on this epic clash as we get it.
