In the second fight of the evening from Sydney, Australia. for UFC 127: "Penn vs. Fitch," Chris Lytle took on late replacement Brian Ebersole, who was filling in for an injured Carlos Condit.
And if you thought the loss of "The Natural Born Killer" and the insertion of "Bad Boy" meant an easy night for "Lights Out," well, you would be wrong.
That's because Ebersole managed to pull off the upset by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).
Ebersole, who came out with his chest hair shaved into an arrow pointing at his face, opened the fight with a cartwheel kick to set the tone for the three-round struggle that would ensue.
Lytle won many of the standing exchanges in the opening frame and threatened to end the fight multiple times with a guillotine. But this would prove to be Ebersole's night to shine.
The second round saw Ebersole nearly do what no fighter has ever done in the long and storied career of Chris Lytle -- finish him by knockout. Not only that, he also nearly submitted him, also something no one else has ever done.
A huge knee against the cage put Chris's "Lights Out" for a brief time but he somehow managed to survive long enough to make it to the horn.
It wouldn't get much better for Lytle, as he was clearly gassed from the punishment he had taken.
Ebersole kept the pressure on and did what no one thought he could -- pulled off the upset.
