UFC Fight Night 23: "Fight for the Troops 2" from a military base in Fort Hood, Texas, has officially wrapped, which means that it's time for those select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights to get a little extra grease for their efforts.
To the tune of $30,000 each.
The promotion dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses to four out of the 22 fighters on the card, and it's probably no surprise who's leaving "The Lone Star State" with a second sack of simoleons.
Melvin Guillard earned his "Knockout of the Night" by absolutely running through lightweight sensation Evan Dunham in the main event of the evening. "The Young Assassin" looked like exactly that and could be on his way to a 155-pound title shot.
Also hauling in a wheelbarrow full of cash is the suddenly resurgent Yves Edwards, for his impressive rear naked choke over Cody McKenzie. The master of "Thug-jitsu" used his ample mat skills to take the neck of his opponent along with the bacon that comes with earning "Submission of the Night."
That fight also won the coveted "Fight of the Night" honor for the thrilling back and forth war that it was, albeit for two short rounds. "The AK Kid" may not have been able to apply his patented "McKenzie-tine," but a cool $30,000 should soften the blow of his first career defeat.
Here are the special fight bonuses for UFC Fight Night 23:
Fight of the Night -- Cody McKenzie vs. Yves EdwardsAgain, each fighter received $30,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which we will pass along as soon as possible.
Submission of the Night -- Yves Edwards
Knockout of the Night -- Melvin Guillard
