UFC 128 – Edson Barboza sharpening his stand-up game in readiness for Njokuani showdown in New Jersey

Brazilian Muay Thai specialist, Edson Barboza has been speaking about his preparations for his second fight inside the octagon, this time at UFC 128 on March 19th in Newark, New Jersey, explaining he’s sharpening his stand-up skills more and more as he knows Anthony Njokuani likes to bang.
Speaking via Tatame Magazine, Barboza said:
“The expectations are as high as they can get, since I’m training hard and 100% focused for this fight. My training is very good here on The Armony team.”
“I’m training my stand-up game with my coach Oauli and my training partner, Marlon Moraes, who’s moving to the United States and he’ll help me on that part. Luiz Baha will also help me a lot on my bangs, and I’ll have a very hard training. I’m also training a lot of Wrestling and ground game with Cavaca, Rafael Chaves and Eduardo Guedes, and my physical trainings I left for Joe Mullings to deal with. I’m training it all.”
“He also likes to bang. My game plan is always the same, feeling the fight and seeing where my opponent is more likely to make a mistake. If I have the chance to fight standing, I’ll do it, but if I have to take him down, I’ll use my skills on the floor and all things I’ve been training here on The Armony. My game plan is to make my game work.”
Barboza made an impressive UFC debut in November, defeating replacement opponent, Mike Lullo with a series of devastating low kicks on route to a third round TKO victory. The win was his seventh straight, all of which have come inside the distance.
