Ed Soares says a win for Lyoto Machida over Randy Couture will earn him legendary status

Ed Soares, the manager and translator of former UFC light heavyweight champion, Lyoto Machida has confirmed the Brazilian’s next fight with be against “Hall of Famer”, Randy Couture, as well as adding a win will grant him the status of legend.
Speaking via UOL Esporte, Soares said:

“This is going to be great for Lyoto. To become a legend, you’ve got to defeat a legend. And Couture is one for sure. I know Lyoto will get there a day and this bout is very important for this.”

“It’ll be a big honour for us to match against Randy. It’s a step to be given by Lyoto to become a legend and I am sure this is going to happen.”

Machida’s reign as champion was cut short by fellow Brazilian, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in May, losing the fight via first round TKO. He returned to the octagon to face fellow former champion, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson but lost via split decision on the judges scorecards.
