Originally a Replacement Himself, Nam Phan Awaits New Opponent for UFC 136

First it was Josh Grispi vs. Matt Grice… down goes Grispi.

Then it was Matt Grice vs. Nam Phan… down goes Grice.

Now, it’s Nam Phan vs. TBA.

UFC officials on Tuesday night announced that Matt Grice had to bow out due to injury.
To say Phan’s UFC road has been a little rocky would be an understatement. Making his way to the Octagon via the twelfth season of The Ultimate Fighter, Phan has consistently come up just short.
In the semifinal round of the reality series tournament, he lost a split decision to eventual runner-up Michael Johnson.
Then getting his shot in the Octagon, Phan dropped back-to-back fights to Leonard Garcia and former WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown. Both of those losses came by way of decision.
When Grispi dropped out of his UFC 136 bout with Grice, Phan answered the call. Now that Grice has withdrawn from the bout, matchmakers Joe Silva and Sean Shelby are once again tasked with finding a suitable replacement. With about a month left until fight time, there is no doubt they’ll find someone for Phan to throw down with.
Dual title fights – UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard and UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian – headline UFC 136 on Oct. 8 in Houston.
