UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones and current number one contender, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson have begun their pre-fight war of words early today at a specially arranged press conference in Denver, Colorado, with each man taking a very different approach to proceedings. Their conversation went like this…
Jackson: “I respect you and everything, I think you are the future of MMA, but you fought Shogun when he was rusty as hell man!”
Jones: (shaking head) “I’m sure after the fight they’ll say ‘You didnt fight the PRIDE Rampage, you fought the movie star Rampage. There’s always excuses.”
Jackson: (laughing) “You’re right… Actually I always have like three excuses for every time I lose.”
Jones: “You thinking up any good ones now?”
Jackson: “I wont need any! You’re gonna need a bunch of them though!”
Jones has set the light heavyweight division on fire after defeating the likes of Ryan Bader and then champion, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua to capture the 205 pound title. He was expected to fight Rashad Evans next but a mix up with a hand injury saw “Suga” take another opponent. As for Jackson, his route back to the title has been littered with long spells out due to injuries and movie roles but he has put together a handy two-fight winning streak against Lyoto Machida and Matt Hamill. Stay tuned to MMABay for more build-up to this one as we get it.
