Miesha Tate: Dana White is ignorant (about women's MMA)

by Penny Buffington
STRIKEFORCE and M-1 Global, in advance of the upcoming STRIKEFORCE and M-1 GLOBAL PRESENT: FEDOR vs. HENDERSON card scheduled for Saturday, July 30 at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill held a media call with main event heavyweights Fedor Emelianenko and Dan Henderson, as well as women’s bantamweight champion Marloes Coenen and number one women’s bantamweight contender Miesha Tate. The conference call took place Thursday, July 21.
With the UFC’s purchase of Strikeforce the females must be feeling added pressure to impress UFC president Dana White. In an interview with the MMA2DAY Show right before the announced purchase Miesha Tate stated Dana White was ignorant. She was not using the word in a derogatory way but rather in its true form. She explained as far as her knowledge White does not watch female fights at all. Indicating he had only watched one, ever.
During the conference call Penny Buffington executive producer of MMA2DAY Show asked Miesha to explain? “In saying that Dana is ignorant, I don’t mean it as an insult; I mean it as he is not informed. He doesn’t really know enough about women’s mma to really make a judgment call about us at this point. I feel with the purchase of Strikeforce he is going to being paying more closer attention to it. So with that in the back of my mind it is not really added pressure. To me it is actual motivation. It is exciting. Now I am going to have that opportunity to say, hey you know what? This is what mma is all about. I hope Marloes and I go out there and give a very exciting performance.”
40 year old Dan “Hendo” Henderson has a sherdog fight record: 27 – 8 – 0.  34 year old Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko: 31 – 3 – 0.
24 year old Miesha “Takedown” Tate has a sherdog fight record: 11 – 2 – 0.  30 year old Marloes “Rumina” Coenen:  19 – 4 – 0
In hopes that Fedors previous retirement announcement was nothing more than a NOT well thought out plan. Buffington pushed the fighter to please now admit to plans of fighting for years to come. “It’s Gods will if I will keep fighting for years to come. Right now I feel great. My health is great.”
