Strikeforce heavyweight contender, Antonio “Big Foot” Silva has been giving his thoughts on his upcoming September 10th showdown with powerhouse wrestler, Daniel Cormier, explaining he’ll need to be on his metal in case the fight goes to the ground. Speaking via Tatame Magazine, Silva said:
“I already was training a lot my ground game, and now I’ll train even more. He’s very good in Wrestling, Minotauro (Rodrigo Nogueira) already told me they trained together and he’s pretty good, and I’ll have to be great on my ground game to reverse that in case he takes me down and impose my game.”
Silva also commented on Alistair Overeem pulling out of the fight due to a toe injury, something he describes as “suspect”.“If I do something like that, people would say, even him would say, that I ducked him, that I was scared and didn’t want to fight, but I don’t want to think that about him. It’s kind of suspect, but I have to fight, to feed my family.”
Silva is coming off an impressive second round TKO win over formerly ranked number one fighter in the world, Fedor Emelianenko, forcing the doctor to stop the fight in between rounds. As for Cormier, he’s coming off a unanimous decision win over former UFC title contender, Jeff Monson
