A lightweight bout between former Strikeforce lightweight champion, Josh Thomson and recently signed star from the Japanese circuit, Maximo Blanco has been agreed for a yet to be announced Strikeforce event on September 10th. The news was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com earlier today by sources close to the situation, explaining that bout agreements have been issued and signed and the fight could be announced any day now.
Thomson returns to Strikeforce following a long layoff due to injury and will be look to get back to winning ways following an unsuccessful trip to Japan where he lost to Tatsuya Kawajiri on the New Year’s Eve Dynamite!! show.
Blanco hasn’t seen action since last December’s Sengoku event in Japan where he picked up a unanimous decision win over South Korea’s Won Sik Park. He’ll enter the Strikeforce cage with an 8-2-1 record overall.
