It will mark Hamman's fourth fight inside the Octagon (1-2) and the first for the former light heavyweight at 185 pounds.
UFC President Dana White had this to say about the middleweight match up:
"Two time Fight of the Night winner Jared ‘The Messenger’ Hamman has verbally agreed to face two time Submission of the Night winner CB ‘The Doberman’ Dollaway in his middleweight debut August 14 in Milwaukee."Hamman recently made the decision to shed 20 pounds after a unanimous decision loss to Kyle Kingsbury at UFC Fight Night 22 in Sept. 2010.
The former collegiate football defensive lineman is in search of consistent success after winning 11 of his first 12 professional mixed martial arts bouts. "The Messenger" has gone to the judges scorecards in his last two fights, something that never happened in the 13 fights previous.
Perhaps he can leverage his newfound size and strength advantage to get back to his winning (and finishing) ways.
Dollaway, meanwhile, is fresh off a knockout loss to Mark Munoz at UFC on Versus 3 earlier this year, which snapped a three-fight win streak.
The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 7 runner up has had his ups and downs since the show wrapped back in 2008. He'll need to show Hamman that size and strength is no match for speed and scrambling if he wants to remain relevant moving forward.
UFC on Versus 5 will feature a bevy of marquee match ups, including Dan Hardy vs. Chris Lytle in the main event of the evening, as well as Jim Miller vs. Ben Henderson and Stephan Bonnar vs. Karlos Vemola.
