UFC 130: Miguel Torres is fighting to win, not to impress you

If you were one of the many boo birds who called out during Miguel Torres' win over Antonio Banuelos at UFC 126, you might want to clear your throat and get ready to sing again.
That's because the former WEC Bantamweight Champion isn't trying to impress you when he steps foot inside the Octagon against Demetrious Johnson on May 28, he's trying to win.
And if fighting smart and fighting safe means getting the win, then so be it.
Torres will look to win his third straight bout when he takes on "Mighty Mouse" during the Facebook "Prelims" on the UFC 130: "Rampage vs. Hamill" undercard this Saturday night from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
And as he tells Heavy.com, he's in the "business of fighting," which forced him to abandon his passion and get out of career "bankruptcy:"
"I’m not trying to impress anybody when I go out there, I’m not trying to be a showman anymore. I’m trying to be the best fighter I can be; be the smartest fighter I can be, and stay safe. It’s the business that I’m in; I’m in the business of fighting. Before, I used to look at fighting as this passionate thing, I would go out there and just try to impress everybody, make everybody happy. If you run your business that way, what happens? You’re gonna go broke, you’re gonna go bankrupt, and that’s what happened to me. I fought Benavidez and lost that fight, and that put me in line to make a big change in my life."
But will that change be for the better?
Torres (39-3) is fresh off a unanimous decision win over Antonio Banuelos at UFC 126, picking apart the hard-hitting Mexican brawler for three straight rounds with crisp boxing and fancy footwork. It was the second straight win for the former WEC champion -- the Carlson Gracie-trained Brazilian jiu-jitsu stylist choked out Charlie Valencia back in Sept. 2010.
He claims to have his swagger back thanks to training under Zahabi at Tristar and will look to make it three straight, as well as continue his ascent toward the top of the division, when he takes on Demetrious Johnson at UFC 130 on May 28 in Las Vegas.
