Frankie Edgar supports a motion to bring in an overtime round to settle drawn fights in mixed martial arts

UFC lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar has lent his support to the idea of bringing in an overtime round to help settle drawn fights in the sport of mixed martial arts, fights that would normally leave the fans and fighters frustrated and confused.
Speaking via HDNet’s Inside MMA, Edgar said:
“I think another five-minute round would be perfect. You go into a fight, you prepare, and you want a decisive outcome. To have to wait another three months and possibly another fight is kind of annoying. I would say another round would be great. You get to figure out who’s the winner right then and there. Two guys fighting for a title, they’re trained, prepared. Why not just get it over with right then and there?”
MMA legend Bas Rutten, who hosts the popular weekly show, added:
“They do it at K-1 in Japan, and I love that idea. Actually, ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ does it, too. You fight to a draw, boom, the last [round], whoever wins that wins.”
The UFC have unusually experienced two drawn main event fights in as many months, with Edgar himself levelling against number one contender, Gray Maynard, while former lightweight champion, B.J. Penn earned a controversial draw against Jon Fitch just over a week ago. Is this the answer to this problem?
