Overeem didn't know his purse was withheld

Fortunately for Brock Lesnar, Alistair Overeem (Pictured) claims he had no idea a Nevada District Court had put his UFC 141 fight purse into escrow. Otherwise, could you imagine the additional destruction “The Demolition Man” would have unleashed with that kind of frustration hanging over his head?

“I didn’t know about that,” Overeem shared at the post-fight press conference.

After confirming it was the first time he had heard about the controversy, the former Strikeforce heavyweight champion refrained from commenting.

Just hours before Overeem was to make his highly-publicized UFC debut, reports surfaced that Knock Out Investments, better known as Golden Glory, asked the court to withhold Overeem’s purse, win bonus, performance bonus and pay-per-view proceeds.

GG claims Overeem did not pay them their 30 percent commission following his Strikeforce win over Fabricio Werdum on June 18th. The management then negotiated Overeem’s deal with Zuffa, the parent company of UFC, this past September which was parlayed into a blockbuster bout with Lesnar.

Overeem was guaranteed a “show purse” of $264,285 for UFC 141. He collected an additional $121,428 “win bonus” for beating Lesnar on Friday night. According to ESPN, Overeem is also in line to receive a $2 pay-per-view bonus per purchase, “for all revenues received by UFC-Zuffa for telecast of the Lesnar fight in the United States, Canada or over the internet in excess of $500,000.”

Golden Glory believes they are owed a 30 percent commission on all of that dough.

In November, Overeem sued GG for neglecting to pay him more than $150,000 in earnings, including a massive bonus for signing with the UFC in September. He claims his former representatives were keeping pertinent information from him during their negotiations with the UFC.

“What me and the lawyer found out were there were details in the contact that were to my disadvantage, that were advantage to Golden Glory, which were also not explained to me by Golden Glory … [despite having] daily contact with [them] over the phone and email,” Overeem previously stated.”
