T.J. Grant and Jacob Volkmann will see the inside of the Octagon one more time in 2011, as the lightweight ground specialists have been paired for a Dec. 30 meeting at UFC 141.
UFC officials announced Monday that Grant and Volkmann (Pictured) have verbally agreed to the 155-pound contest, set to take place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
It is currently unknown where Volkmann-Grant will fall on the UFC 141 card, the pay-per-view portion of which will be topped by a five-round heavyweight affair between Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem.
A former welterweight standout, Grant won his Oct. 1 lightweight debut via technical submission when he caught Shane Roller in a third-round armbar. Though controversial, it was the 27-year-old Canadian’s 13th career submission victory, moving Grant’s record to 17-5 with wins over Ryo Chonan, Forrest Petz and Kevin Burns.
Volkmann, 31, will enter his third fight of the year on a four-fight winning streak, all of which have come by way of decision. The outspoken chiropractor from Minnesota has added some impressive names to his résumé in the last 18 months, outpointing Ronys Torres, Paul Kelly, Antonio McKee and, most recently, WEC transfer Danny Castillo.
