London, England – Friday September 2nd 2011 – Europe’s largest and most prominent Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotion, The British Association of Mixed Martial Arts (BAMMA), announced today that WARRIOR, the upcoming action drama movie set in the world of MMA, has signed on as an associate sponsor for BAMMA 7 held on Saturday 10th September at The NIA in Birmingham.
“Warrior” will receive branding at the event along with additional PR and marketing support from BAMMA leading up to the UK release on Wednesday September 21st. The movie from acclaimed director Gavin O’Connor (Miracle), stars BAFTA Rising-Star 2011 winner Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception) and Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby, Animal Kingdom) and features BAMMA Welterweight Nate Marquardt, recently signed on a multi-fight deal and expected to make his BAMMA debut in December.
Liam Fisher of BAMMA said “I am so excited about this movie! Warrior is going to put MMA on the mainstream map and we are incredibly proud to be promoting it.”
Haunted by a tragic past, Marine Tommy Conlon (Hardy) returns home for the first time in fourteen years to enlist the help of his father (Nick Nolte) to train for SPARTA, the biggest winner-takes-all event in mixed martial arts history. A former wrestling prodigy, Tommy blazes a path toward the championship while his brother, Brendan (Edgerton), an ex-fighter-turned teacher, returns to the ring in a desperate bid to save his family from financial ruin. But when Brendan’s unlikely, underdog rise sets him on a collision course with the unstoppable Tommy, the two brothers must finally confront each other and the forces that pulled them apart, facing off in the most soaring, soul stirring, and unforgettable climax that must be seen to be believed.
A rousing ode to redemption, reconciliation and the power of the human spirit, WARRIOR is also a moving testament to the enduring bonds of family.
Lionsgate UK will release WARRIOR in cinemas nationwide on Wednesday September 21st
