UFC on Versus 5 results & play-by-play (Aug. 14) for 'Hardy vs Lytle'

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is set to pull the trigger on its latest Versus network special in the "Cream City"  (Sun., Aug. 14, 2011) from the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.


UFC on Versus 5: "Hardy vs. Lytle" will feature a pair of welterweight bangers doing battle in the main event of the evening, as "The Outlaw" Dan Hardy will make one final stand against "Lights Out" himself, Chris Lytle. In addition, longtime lightweight wrecking ball Jim Miller will attempt to solidify his position as the number one contender in the 155-pound division against the "Smooth" one, Ben Henderson.

Hemmi here, stepping up for the main card.
170 lbs.: Dan Hardy vs. Chris Lytle
Round one: Lytle opens with a strong right hand and a right hook to the body before angling away. Lytle pushes forward trying to back Hardy up and goes to the body again. Lytle throws a big uppercut and gets clipped by Hardy. Head kick from Hardy and he finishes a combination with a kick that Lytle catches and trips him. Lytle continues to push the pace and the crowd is behind him. Big overhand rights for Lytle clips Hardy and he looks good. Lytle clips Hardy again with a hook and they both trade blows. Hardy is not doing enough here and Lytle finishes the round strong. 10-9 Lytle
Round two: Lytle opens the second with a nice right hand and then he blasts Hardy with a left. Lytle is looking fantastic so far and blasts Hardy with a left hand that turns his head. Lytle goes to the body and Hardy responds with a left to the body as well. Hardy responds and staggers Lytle, making him stumble and forces Lytle to clinch to clear the cobwebs. Hardy throws a knee to the body on the exit and pushes forward as Lytle covers up. Lytle pokes Hardy in the eye and that's gonna kill Hardy's momentum. After the reset, Lytle blasts Hardy with a right hand and Hardy backs off, covering up. Hardy responds with a huge right hand that staggers Lytle again and then a big knee. Hardy drops for a takedown but WHY? Hardy throws a nice counter left and gets blasted by a left from Lytle. They go toe-to-toe and Hardy throws a big knee. Nice left hand from Lytle and then an uppercut. Lytle wades in with ducking hooks and Hardy backs off with the aggression. Nice overhand right from Lytle again and he follows it up with a body punch. Lytle connects with a left hand at the horn but I'm giving the round to Hardy for hurting Lytle at least twice. 10-9 Hardy
Round three: Lytle wades in as the crowd chants "USA!" Big left hand connects for Lytle as Hardy stands back, biding his time. Hardy wants to counter and he eats a left hand. Leg kick from Hardy and Lytle clips him with a pair of hooks. Hardy needs to step up the aggression. Nice body punch from Lytle and Hardy bounces on his feet, he needs to do something here. Chris Lytle is stealing this round with his aggression. Lytle ducks under a right hook and goes to the body. Hardy whiffs with a pair of knees and steps forward but he's running out of time. Big exchange and Lytle connects as Hardy responds. Hardy drops for a takedown but WHY? Lytle latches on a guillotine choke and forces a tapout from Hardy. That was the dumbest things Dan Hardy has ever done.
Final result: Chris Lytle defeats Dan Hardy via submission (guillotine choke) at 4:16 of round three

155 lbs.: Ben Henderson vs. Jim Miller
Round one: Miller takes the center and throws a pawing right hook. Miller tags him with a left hand as they size each other up. Nice leg kick from Miller and Henderson counters with a jab. Henderson dives forward and eats a knee and short strikes from Miller. Both men clinch in the center of the cage and Miller goes for a standing arm triangle! He wraps up Ben Henderson with his legs as Henderson is standing and Miller attempts to slip to the back. Henderson is on top in half guard and Miller brings up his left leg in rubber guard but Henderson shrugs it off. Miller turtles and pops back to his feet as Henderson throws a head kick and a knee to the body. Henderson has inside position, clinching against the fence adn Miller looks for a Kimura. Henderon punching to free himself and Miller puts his leg over his face here but he loses it. Henderson is on top and looks for a guillotine but Miller counters with one of his own. Henderson slips out and drops some big right elbows from above, Another big right hand from above by Henderson to close out the round. That was incredibly close. 10-9 Miller with the sub attempts? It could go either way.
Round two: Push kick from Henderson and Miller throws counter hooks that connect. Big kick from Miller forces Henderson to back off and Henderson responds with an inside elbow. Henderson clinches and takes Miller down. Miller is cut and Henderson continues to control from above. Miller attacks a leg, looking for a submission but Henderson drops down some ground and pound from above. Miller has a nasty leg lock and stretches Henderson's leg but the dude is made of rubber and slips out. Henderson scores a takedown and starts dropping punches. Again Miller goes for the leg and Henderson tries to roll out of it. Henderson drops punches and Miller gives up on it. Henderson opens with huge punches along the fence, drops down and takes Miller down again. Miller attempts a Kimura and Henderson throws big punches to the body to weaken him. Miller is in a bad spot here and Henderson throws nice ground and pound. Henderson closes the second round strong against Miller, huge round for Bendo 10-9 Henderson
Round three: Miller needs something huge here and both men exchange. Henderson working the jab well and a kick sweeps Miller. Miller stalking Henderson now and he lands a huge left hand that rocks him but Henderson immediately drops down and takes Miller down. Great reaction by Henderson here. Henderson opens up with huge ground and pound and he takes Miller's back with a body triangle. Miller stands up and rolls over in a somersault. Henderson latches in a rear naked choke but it slips out. Huge left hands from Henderson from above and Miller rolls over, surrendering mount. Henderson passes to side control and Miller turtles but Henderson continues to drop blows. Huge elbows from Henderson along the fence and Miller is hurting bad. Miller looks so frustrated and broken against the cage. Henderson drops down for a guillotine and Miller tries to defend. Henderson throws a knee to the body and both men throw punches to the final bell. That was the best performance of Ben Henderson's career. 10-9 Henderson
Final result: Ben Henderson defeats Jim Miller via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 30-26)

155 lbs.: Donald Cerrone vs. Charles Oliveira
Round one: Cerrone opens with a huge leg kick and begins stalking Oliveira. Cerrone throws a nice knee in the clinch as well. Oliveira responds with an inside leg kick and a head kick which is blocked and Cerrone fires back with another big knee. Oliveira has a high guard and Cerrone attempts a kick to the body that jacks him in the cup. They eventually reset and Cerrone goes right back to the low kick. Cerrone finishes off a combination with a big kick. Nice straight right hand from Cerrone blasts Oliveira with a left hook to the body that hurts him and he crushes him in the face with a knee when he bends over to send him to the canvas. Cerrone opens up with big strikes while standing over Oliveira as the Brazilian covers up. Cerrone drops shot after shot on him and Oliveira rolls over until the ref stops the fight. Damn!
Final result: Donald Cerrone defeats Charles Oliveira via TKO at 3:01 of round one

170 lbs.: Duane Ludwig vs. Amir Sadollah
Round one: Sadollah pushes forward early and throws a push kick. Sadollah looking to find his range and he throws repeated straight punches. Sadollah clinches, pushing Ludwig into the cage but Ludwig spins him around. Both men posture with a neck clinch and both men separate. They exchange punches and Ludwig throws a pair of head kicks but Sadollah responds with quick straight punches that connect. Sadollah throws a push kick and they continue to exchange. Big body kick from Ludwig lands and Ludwig keeps the pressure standing. Nice overhand right from Ludwig and he hurts Sadollah with a left hand that staggers him. Sadollah clinches, looking for a takedown and Ludwig throws a big elbow. Another left left hand connects for Ludwig. Sadollah is in trouble here, not sure why he's still standing. Ludwig has full control of the stand-up with a big body-blow at the end of the round. 10-9 Ludwig
Round two: Sadollah opens nicely with aggressive kicks but eats a pair of counters from Ludwig to the face. Ludwig pushes forward with head kicks but they're blocked. They continue to exchange. Sadollah shoots for a takedown but gets stuffed easily. Ludwig is landing the counter left hook every time Sadollah opens up. Sadollah attempts a push kick but he's fading a bit. Ludwig is completely outclassing him int eh stand-up. Another big left hook stumbles Sadollah and Ludwig throws knees in the clinch. Now Ludwig shoots for a takedown but he gets stuffed and he pushes him into the fence. Sadollah opens up with a big push kick but Ludwig continues to land his punches. Big elbow lands for Ludwig. 10-9 Ludwig
Round three: Sense of urgency for Sadollah and he lands a head kick then follows it up with a takedown but Ludwig pops back to his feet. Ludwig clinches and throws a knee. More head kicks from Ludwig and Sadollah shoots but gets stuffed easily. Sadollah is running out of time to make something happen. Big push kick lands hard for Sadollah and he's being more aggressive but he can't follow up. He's easily stuffed again by Ludwig. They trade punches and Sadollah needs to take some risks if he wants to win here. Sadollah presses forward and his head kick is blocked. They exchange combinations and Ludwig counters nicely. Sadollah keeps pressing forward and eats another left counter. Ludwig shoots for a takedown and gets it and Sadollah works his way back to his feet but gets taken down again at the end of the round. 10-10
Final result: Duane Ludwig defeats Amir Sadollah via unanimous decision (29-28 x3)

185 lbs.: C.B. Dollaway vs. Jared Hamman
Round one: Dollaway misses with a hook and eats a leg kick. Hamman lands a nice straight combination and both men trade. Dollaway shoots in and scores a takedown but Hamman quickly hops to his feet. Hamman tries to get up but Dollaway takes his back. Hamman pummels under and pops to his feet but gets taken down again against the cage. Hamman scrambles and Dollaway latches on an arm triangle. Hamman is defending with his right arm to his ear but he's in serious trouble. Dollaway gives up on the choke and Hamman retains guard. Hamman throws up a triangle and Dollaway drops solme big groudn and pound. Hamman pops to his feet and Dollaway drops for a takedown. Hamman sprawls against the cage and Dollaway takes his back but slips off. Hamman is in top position and throws punches to the body. Dollaway throws elbows from bottom and Hamman stands up passing to side control when he comes to the ground. Hamman mounts with 30 seconds left and takes Dollaway's back. Dollaway rolls into Hamman and Hamman pops to his feet, getting blasted with two huge right hands at the end of the round. 10-9 Dollaway
Round two: Hamman snaps off a pair of jabs early but eats a body kick from Dollaway. Hamman pushes forward with combinations of straight punches and Dollaway is stunned. Dollaway drops down but gets stuffed. Hamman unloads with flurries of punches, pounding Dollaway along the fence. Dollaway drops down and Hamman passes to side control, blasting Dollaway on the ground with knees to the body. Dollaway covers up and Hamman starts pounding him on the ground over and over again. He goes back to side control and drops huge elbows to Dollaway's face. He pins Dollaway's arm and drops more elbows along the fence. Hamman mounts and drops huge punches from above. Dollaway is in huge trouble! Dollaway spins out and Dollaway takes his back, dropping huge right hands to his face. Dollaway rolls under trying to escape but Hamman just keeps crushing him with punches and the the ref stops the fight! Dominant performance in round two by Jared Hamman!
Final result: Jared Hamman defeats C.B. Dollaway via TKO at 3:38 of round two

135 lbs.: Joseph Benavidez vs. Eddie Wineland
Round one: Wineland quickly takes the center of the cage and Benavidez lands a nice thigh kick. He follows it up with a body kick and then another leg kick from the outside. More kicks from Benavidez as Wineland looks to counter with punches. Nice sneaky overhand right by Benavidez cuts Wineland and he follows it up with a front kick to the body. Slick combination by Benavidez stuns Wineland and he follows it up with more kicks. Benavidez looks terrific so far. Benavidez keeps up the pressure with kicks and Wineland just can't hit him with anything. Wineland's nose is bleeding badly. Wineland tries to counter but he's just a step too slow. Wineland keeps pawing at his own nose and he looks distracted. 10-9 Benavidez
Round two: Benavidez wings a right hand and gets slightly clipped by an uppercut from Wineland. More leg kicks from Benavidez and Wineland looks flustered. Big body kick from Benavidez and Benavidez gets punched in the eye. Benavidez thinks he got poked and turns away and Wineland wisely chases him down looking to hurt him. Wineland clinches but Benavidez escapes and they reset. Nice looping right hand from Benavidez connects and he goes back to the kicks. Swift combination from Benavidez forces Wineland to back off and Benavidez drops down for a takedown, throwing a knee to the body and kicking Wineland's leg from the clinch. Nice uppercut from Benavidez on the exit from the clinch. Benavidez shoots in with another takedown and throws repeated knees to the stomach. Benavidez attempts a takedown and gets it near the end of the round. 10-9 Benavidez
Round three: Big right hand from Benavidez clips Wineland and staggers him but Benavidez slips and can't follow up. Benavidez throws a body kick and staggers Wineland with another right and he follows it up with a huge flying knee that sends him all the way over Wineland along the fence. Left head kick lands for Benavidez and he throws a spinning back fist. Benavidez is really opening up here. Benavidez is in a groove now, ducks under a hook and blasts Wineland in the face. Benavidez fakes a takedown and forces Wineland to sprawl to the canvas. Wineland finally lands a big strike but Benavidez throws a head kick that connects again. Benavidez shoots in again and gets stuffed but Wineland eats a right hook on the exit. Another right hand from Benavidez tattoos Wineland and they trade kicks until the final horn. 10-9 Benavidez
Final result: Joseph Benavidez defeats Eddie Wineland via unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

Round one: Noke throws a quick push kick and Herman responds with a huge right hook. Noke shoots in for a takedown and gets reversed by Herman quickly. Noke pops to his feet and takes Herman down along the fence. Herman traps an arm and might be looking for a triangle or an arm bar. Herman throws up an arm bar and almost has a triangle locked in. Herman just needs to lock in his ankle and he transitions to an arm bar again and Noke slips out. Herman again looks for the triangle. Herman rolls Noke over with an arm bar and he's torquing badly on Noke's arm. Herman really cranking on it but Noke squirms free again. Noke postures up and drops some ground and pound from Herman's half guard. Noke passes to mount by Herman immediately grabs a leg which allows him to retain guard. Herman transitions to an inverted heel hook and forces the quick tap! Wow!

Final result: Ed Herman defeats Kyle Noke via submission (inverted heel hook) at 4:15 of round one

Round one: Vemola comes forward with pressure early an initiates a clinch. Markes has inside position along the fence, throwing some knees into Vemola's legs early. Vemola pushes Markes off and wings some massive hooks that miss. Both men trade bombs and Vemola gets tagged. Vemola is throwing the widest haymakers in MMA history and Markes shoots in for a takedown, forcing Vemola to sit down along the fence. Vemola gets to his feet and immediately gets thrown down by Markes. Vemola sits up and tries to get to his feet again and is dragged back down. Markes drops some nice right hands and Vemola responds with short elbows. Markes lifts Vemola up and drops him to the canvas again. Vemola again sits up along the cage and they're in a stalemate. Vemola gets back to his feet but he's pinned against the fence by Markes. Vemola attempts a tricky toss and looks for a guillotine at the end of the round but can't squeeze it tight enough. 10-9 Markes

Round two: Vemola wings big punches early and scores a very brief takedown after clinching against the fence. Vemola throws huge haymakers that throw him off balance and Markes uses that to take him down easily. Just really sloppy fighting here by Vemola. Markes gets to his feet and immediately takes Vemola down again. Vemola uses underhooks and gets back to his feet but he's getting dominated in the clinch by Markes. Vemola looks very tired already. Markes throws some knees to the body and drops Vemola on his back again, possibly looking to isolate an arm. Markes pushes hima way from the cage a bit and drops some elbows to the body from side control. 10-9 Markes
 
Round three: Vemola looks gassed and he needs a miracle badly. He lunges in swinging hooks, looking for the takedown and immediately gets turned around and dominated in the clinch by Markes, rinse repeat from the last two rounds. Vemola just has nothing for Markes here. Markes takes Vemola down into his full guard and drops punches. Markes passes to half guard and is looking to pass to side control, getting it. Markes drops punches from above and is content to pound away from the strong position. Vemola has absolutely nothing here. Markes finishes the fight on top and he'll win an easy unanimous decision. 10-9 Markes

Final result: Ronny Markes defeats Carlos Vemola via unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

145 lbs.: Alex Caceres vs. Jimy Hettes
Round one: Caceres throws a quick inside kick and eats a hook from Hettes. Both men aggressive early with a fast pace. Hettes looks for a takedown but ends up on bottom. Hettes wraps up Caceres looking for a leg lock and Caceres is trying to punch him from top position. Hettes rolls away from danger and scores a single leg takedown to land on top in Caceres' full guard. Hettes drops some soft ground and pound from above and Caceres hooks a leg and sweeps him, taking top position and dropping some hammer fists. Hettes goes for another leg lock but Caceres spins out of it, staying on top and throwing punches to the body from above. Hettes wraps up a leg and reverses Caceres taking top again and dropping some punches. Hettes looks to pass but Caceres retains guard. Omaplata attempt and they transition back to their feet. Both men drop to the ground with leg locks and Hettes has a tight one. Caceres postures up trying to punch his way out of it but Hettes takes top position as the round ends. That was a lot of fun. 10-9 Hettes
Round two: Huge judo hip toss from Hettes early and he transitions immediately to a D'Arce choke. Hettes takes Caceres' back standing but drops to the ground. Hettis takes his back with full back mount trying to flatten him out and Hettes almost transitions to full mount possibly looking for an arm triangle. Hettes backs off but stays on top and drops for a guillotine. Hettes throws up an armbar, transitions to a triangle and then tries an omaplata when that doesn't work and Caceres slips out. They get back to their feet and Hettes clinches, scoring a takedown and passing to side control. This has to be exhausting for both men. Hettes looks for a mounted crucifix but Caceres slips free. Hettes takes his back and sinks in a rear naked choke that forces the tap! That was such a fun fight!
Final result: Jimy Hettes defeats Alex Ceseres via submission (rear naked choke) at 3:12 of round two

155 lbs.: Cole Miller vs. T.J. O'Brien
Round one: Both men bouncing around early looking to find their range. Miller connects with a nice right hand and now had control of the center of the cage. O'Brien lunges forward with a flurry of hooks that don't connect. Miller throws a nice head kick and O'Brien chases him down throwing punches to the head and a kick to the body. Leg kick from O'Brien may have hurt himself. Miller throws a big right hand that staggers him. O'Brien recovers and stands in the pocket again but Miller has found his range and he's engaging aggressively. O'Brien pushes forward but Miller responds with a nice straight left hand as the round ends. 10-9 Miller
Round two: O'Brien opens with some aggression, throwing solid high front kicks and landing a jab. Miller responds with a stiff left jab to the face. Miller gets backed up by O'Brien but he responds with a left hook counter to the face that drops O'Brien. Miller throws multiple leg kicks to O'Brien's legs from above with his opponent on his back, just punishing his legs. O'Brien tries to get to his feet and score a takedown and Miller latches on a guillotine, passing directly to mount and forces the tap lightning quick!
Final result: Cole Miller defeats T.J. O'Brien via submission (guillotine choke) at 2:30 of round two

Round one: Volkmann looks to clinch early and Castillo shrugs it off. Castillo lands a nice left hand in an exchange and follows it up with an inside leg kick. After some posturing, Volkmann shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Volkmann immediately positions for a D'Aarce choke and it's in there really, really tight and Castillo's in trouble. Castillo rolls over on top of Volkmann and finally slips out, in top position but Volkmann gets to his feet quickly. Castillo drops down for a takedown but Volkmann stuffs it against the fence and they stalemate for the final minute of the round. Close round but 10-9 Volkmann for nearly finishing the submission
Round two: Castillo shoots in for a takedown early and gets it but Volkmann slips his arm under his neck and looks like he's either going for something but Castillo slips out. Castillo working hard to put Volkmann on his back but Volkmann has his neck wrapped up and gets to his feet. Castillo gets warned about grabbing the fence and Volkmann's shorts by the referee and they continue to posture on the ground. Volkmann drops down into a crucifix position and reverses with a takedown attempts. This is a very tough wrestling battle and Volkmann turns the corner landing on top. Volkmann looks for an arm triangle choke but gives up on it and sinks in a D'Aarce instead. Castillo is in trouble here but pops out of it and Volkmann swarms him looking to go right back to the choke again. Volkmann has the choke tight and Castillo just grits his teeth and survives to the final horn. 10-9 Volkmann
Round three: Castillo lands a pair of nice right hands early and he's clearly the better stand-up fighter. Castillo whiffs with a big uppercut and lands a leg kick as Volkmann shoots in on a takedown but gets stuffed. Volkmann can't get a good grip on Castillo and allows him to escape. Leg kick from Castillo and Volkmann shoots in, taking him down. Volkmann sinks in the D'Aarce choke again, he really wants that submission. Volkmann has it tight but Castillo isn't panicking. Castillo tries to squirm free now, he might be in trouble here and Castillo twists free again. Volkmann stays on top and drops some short elbows and he's looking for the choke again with a minute left. Castillo is surviving but he's offering nothing right now. Volkmann takes Castillo's back at the final bell. 10-9 Volkmann
Final result: Jacob Volkmann defeats Danny Castillo via unanimous decision

Edwin Figueroa vs. Jason Reinhardt
Round one: Figueroa immediately takes the center of the cage while Reinhardt circles around him along the outside of the cage. The crowd is not enjoying it. Reinhardt is just running away right now and Figueroa lunges in with a big right hand that drops him temporarily. Reinhardt attempts a guillotine and Figueroa is searching for the takedown. It's tight but he gets it. Reinhardt takes Figueroa's back and he's got both hooks in looking for the rear naked choke. Figueroa turns into Reinhardt and lands on top, dropping a few punches to the body before backing off. Reinhardt attempts an awful takedown and falls to his back. He's really tired already. Reinhardt is in big trouble here. Figueroa takes top position in Reinhardt's full guard. Figueroa postures up and drops some big ground and pound on Reinhardt and he's hurting him bad to the body. Reinhardt is getting smoked here but he survives to the end of the round. 10-9 Figueroa
Round two: Figueroa stalking Reinhardt early and he reverses a takedown attempt directly into mount. Reinhardt turns his back and is getting brutalized as the ref steps in and stops the fight.
Final result: Edwin Figueroa defeats Jason Reinhardt via TKO at 0:50 of round two
