UFC 134 results: Shogun Rua finishes Forrest Griffin by knockout

The co-main event of UFC 134: "Silva vs. Okami" tonight (Aug. 27, 2011) featured a rematch four years in the making as former light heavyweight champions Mauricio Rua and Forrest Griffin met once again to settle the score.
Was Griffin's win back in Sept. 2007 a fluke against a rusty opponent with bad knees? And could a healthy "Shogun" prove that he was indeed better than the man that submitted him all those years ago?
Yes ... he sure as hell could.
That's because the Brazilian came out throwing heavy leather and with some seriously bad intentions. He wanted to prove the doubters wrong and that's exactly what he did by landing a series of punches, both standing and on the ground, that finished Griffin before the end of the first round.
This was Rua's first fight since a demoralizing loss to Jon Jones back in March of this year, one in which he lost the light heavyweight championship. There were questions as to where his head could possibly be at after such a performance and he answered every one of them tonight.
His head is screwed on tight.
The same cannot be said for Griffin, who outright admitted in his blogs leading into tonight that he no longer enjoys his job and he feels as though he's not getting better as a fighter.
While that may be true, there's certainly no shame in losing to one of the best fighters on the planet.
Tie game, folks. 1-1. Want a trilogy?
