Superior Cage Combat 2 took place last night (Aug. 20, 2011) at the Orleans Arena at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The nine-fight card featured UFC veteran Josh Neer, who was looking to extend his winning streak to four at the expense of Blas Avena. And that's exactly what he did, mauling his opponent and finishing him within the first round.
That makes six wins in seven fights since his dismissal from the Octagon. Lorenzo Fertitta and Dana White still need more fights?
Also on the card was 46-fight veteran John Gunderson, who picked up perhaps the most emotional win of his career when he submitted James Birdsley in the second round.
This just days removed from the death of Shawn Tompkins, who trained the 32-year-old lightweight. After the victory, Gunderson simply said, "This was for Shawn."
