Wade Hampel, the manager of UFC lightweight wiz-kid
Charles Oliveira, has revealed the promising Brazilian is considering dropping to 145 pounds for his next fight inside the octagon after failing to pick up a win in his last three outings.
Speaking via MMAFighting.com, Hampel said:
“He does have a big frame. In another five years, I see him fighting at 185. But right now, we’re considering him moving down. People say that Cerrone came in really big but he landed a great liver shot. If anyone lands a perfect shot, especially on the liver, I don’t care if you’re 135, you’ll get the same response. But we’re going to keep our options open. He’s the ultimate fighter. He just fights. If we told him to go fight at 205, he’d go fight at 205.”
Oliveira could be an instant hit at 145 pounds with his flashy stand-up skills and deadly ability to submit his opponents on the ground. His only defeats at lightweights have come against fighters who have clearly overpowered him, something he’s less likely to run into at featherweight.
