UFC 132 – Shane Roller discusses his game plan to deal with the explosive Melvin Guillard

Former WEC stand-out, Shane Roller has been speaking about what he must do to combat the explosiveness of his UFC 132 opponent, Melvin Guillard this weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, explaining getting position on the ground will be key and not giving him room for manoeuvre.
Speaking via MMAJunkie.com, Roller said:
“As long as I set up my takedowns good, I don’t think I’ll have a problem getting him to the ground. He’s explosive. He’s great with his strikes, and I think he does a really good job of getting up when you take him down. You’ve got to get position and just control and methodically move to better positions when you’re on top, or he’ll explode up and get out.”
“You can replicate the movement pretty good, you just can’t replicate his quickness. He’s very quick, and it’s hard to find people with that quickness. It’s something you’ve either got or you don’t. But I have great training partners that replicate his movement and how he strikes and comes in, and all of that. I’m very confident I’m ready to go.”
“I’d be very surprised if he wanted to take me down. I think he’s going to want to keep the fight standing for as long as he can. But I’m definitely going to be getting it to the mat at some point.”
Roller marked his octagon debut with a knockout win over Thiago Tavares on the UFC on Versus 3 card in Louisville, Kentucky. After a tough first round he landed a blockbuster right hand which stopped the Brazilian in his tracks. Stay tuned to MMABay for more build-up to this one as we get it.
