It has today been revealed that the semi-final match-up’s in the Strikeforce heavyweight grand-prix will go down on September 10th at a location yet to be announced, dispelling any notion that the tournament was doomed to fail due to scheduling problems.
The news comes via MMAJunkie.com who confirmed the news with a source close to the situation. A number of other major fights are rumoured to be going down on that night involving the likes of Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, Roger Gracie, Gegard Mousasi and Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal.
On semi-final will pit current heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem against Antonio “Big Foot” Silva. Overeem is fresh off a three round unanimous decision win over Fabricio Werdum while Silva shocked the world when he pounded Fedor Emelianenko into oblivion back in February.
The other semi-final will see former UFC heavyweight champion, Josh Barnett battle K-1 star, Sergei Kharitonov. Barnett has recently disposed of Brett Rogers, taking the striker down, controlling him and submitting him in impressive fashion while Kharitonov knocked out Andrei Arlovski earlier in the year.
