Horodecki Signs with Bellator, Debuts July 23 in Ontario

Former WEC lightweight Chris Horodecki has signed with Bellator Fighting Championships and will debut against Chris Saunders at Bellator 47.

Sherdog.com confirmed the main-card pairing with a source close to the event on Wednesday. Bellator 47 goes down July 23 at Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario, Canada. Featuring both of the company’s Summer Series featherweight tournament semifinals, the event marks the Chicago-based promotion’s inaugural show on Canadian soil.

Formerly a face of the International Fight League, Horodecki racked up an 8-1 IFL record before the promotion folded. The 23-year-old “Polish Hammer” joined World Extreme Cagefighting in 2009, posting two wins and two losses. The Canadian was released by the organization this past December following a submission defeat to Donald Cerrone. Horodecki most recently competed in April, forcing David Castillo to submit to a first-round rear-naked choke.

Saunders began his pro career two years ago and has fought actively ever since, competing five times in 2010. The “So Cal Kid” suffered his only defeat in his third pro fight, falling by rear-naked choke to Isaac Gutierrez. Saunders has been flawless ever since, most recently knocking out Cleber Luciano in the second round of their April contest.
