DREAM 17 – Gegard Mousasi and Hiroyuki Takaya defend titles, Hideo Tokoro crowned bantamweight tournament winner

The star-studded DREAM 17 event went down earlier today in Tokyo, Japan with more than one championship fight on the card, as well as the culmination of the much hyped bantamweight tournament contested between Masakazu Imanari and Hideo Tokoro.
The fight between Imanari and Tokoro was an entertaining back-and-forth affair as is usually the case with the lower weight classes but it was Tokoro who did enough to impress the judges at the end of the fight and walk away with his hand raised and his biggest career achievement to date.
In other action current light heavyweight champion, Gegard Mousasi proved why he’s one of the best in the world when he scored a devastating knockout win over Hiroshi Izumi, the likes of which had the crowd worrying for their fellow countryman’s health.
The main event of the evening was another title fight as Hiroyuki Yakaya defended his featherweight title against Kazuyuki Miyata. Again this was another close affair as the two buzzsaws went the distance but Takaya did enough to earn a split decision win and holds onto his title.

Mousasi defeated Izumi via TKO (Punches) at 3:28 of Round 1.
Lightweight bout:  Tatsuya Kawajiri vs.  Drew Fickett
Kawajiri defeated Fickett via TKO (Punches) at of Round 1.
Bantamweight bout:  Keisuke Fujiwara vs.  Kenji Osawa
Osawa defeated Fujiwara via Unanimous Decision.
Light Heavyweight bout:  Tatsuya Mizuno vs.  Trevor Prangley
Mizuno defeated Prangley via TKO (Knee and Punches) at 4:41 of Round 1.
Catchweight (175 lbs) bout:  Eiji Ishikawa vs.  Marius Žaromskis
Žaromskis defeated Ishikawa via Unanimous Decision.
Lightweight bout:  Eiji Mitsuoka vs.  Bruno Carvalho
Mitsuoka defeated Carvalho via Unanimous Decision.
