“There’s a bunch of good guys at 145. It’s a really tough division, and I think it’s only going to continue to grow. I wouldn’t put myself near the top anywhere, man. I’m just out here scrapping. I have a lot of work to do; I’m not trying to push it any time soon. I have a lot of learning and growing to do. When I get there, I want to be 100 percent.”
Asked if he’d step up to the plate if the call came sooner than he would have liked, Poirier said:“I’m not sure, man. I’d have to see what I was going through at the moment – what’s in my mind. That’s a good question. Knowing myself, I’d probably take it. I jump into fights like that. Last-second opportunities that happen like the Grispi fight don’t happen too often. You never know.”
