Following a successful March debut focused on Jon Jones, Spike TV brings back its special pre-event preview show "In the Moment," on Wednesday, May 25.
This time around, UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar (13-1-1 MMA, 8-1-1 UFC) takes center stage.
"UFC Presents Frankie Edgar: In the Moment" debuts at 10 p.m. ET/PT ahead of Edgar's UFC 130 main event with top contender and budding nemesis Gray Maynard (10-0-1 MMA, 8-0-1 UFC).
Officials told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that similar to the Jones episode, the half-hour special follows the fighter's pre-fight preparations, told from his point of view with no narration.
UFC 130 takes place May 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The third meeting between lightweight champion Edgar and challenger Maynard headlines the pay-per-view event.
Edgar also is featured in the UFC's traditional preview show, "Countdown to UFC 130," which debuts on Spike TV immediately after the "In the Moment" special.
Edgar and Maynard met earlier this year, and despite relatively little anticipation among most hardcore fans, the contest turned into a "Fight of the Year" candidate. After an opening round that saw Maynard blast the champ repeatedly with powerful punches, Edgar somehow managed to salvage a draw in a 25-minute thriller. It was initially announced that the WEC's final champ, Anthony Pettis, would get the next crack at the belt, but UFC president Dana White later changed his mind and granted Maynard a rematch.
Maynard remains the only man to ever blemish Edgar's record, as "The Bully" also defeated the champ in an April 2008 UFC Fight Night contest. Despite Edgar's struggles with Maynard in the past, he remains a slight favorite in the matchup according to oddsmakers.
