Despite a number of reports floating around over the past couple of days it appears former WEC lightweight champion, Jamie Varner will not be travelling to the Far East to take on DREAM champion, Shinya Aoki on May 29th in Saitama.
Varner’s management team, KO Reps, revealed to MMAWeekly.com talks have been ongoing over the past couple of weeks although nothing had been signed or even issued from the Japanese based promotion and the fight was looking less and less likely.
The other potential opponent for Aoki is MFC lightweight champion and one-time UFC fighter, Antonio McKee but it appears he could be in a similar state of flux as Varner. Stay tuned to MMABay in the coming weeks for more on this as we get it.
