Evan Dunham withdraws from UFC 132, George Sotiropoulos remains on card

An undisclosed injury has forced lightweight Evan Dunham (11-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) to withdraw from a fight with George Sotiropoulos (14-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) at UFC 132.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed the news with sources close to the event.

Sotiropoulos will remain on the card, the sources said, and a search for a new opponent is underway.

UFC 132 takes place July 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and features a bantamweight title bout between champ Dominick Cruz and rival Urijah Faber, a former WEC featherweight titleholder.

The summer event has now lost two scheduled matchups due to injury. A rematch between B.J. Penn and Jon Fitch, who fought to a draw at UFC 127, was scratched when Fitch withdrew due to injury and Penn subsequently said he, too, was injured.

In addition to the injury Dunham recently sustained, the lightweight is on the mend from back-to-back losses inside the octagon that blemished his undefeated resume. The Eugene, Ore. native caught the wrong end of a decision against former champ Sean Sherk at UFC 119, and he then was stopped in the first round by Melvin Guillard at UFC Fight Night 23.

Sotiropoulos also looks to get back on the right track after suffering his first loss inside the octagon. The Australian native's seven-fight streak was broken at UFC 127 by German Dennis Siver, who soundly outstruck him en route to an upset unanimous-decision win.

That dashed his immediate hopes for a title shot after being declared "in the mix" of the light title picture by UFC president Dana White.
