An interesting lightweight battle between former PRIDE champion, Takanori Gomi and Brazilian wonder kid, Edson Barboza is reportedly in works for the UFC in Rio card on August 28th in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. On Twitter, Shinichi Saitou – editor of Japanese martial arts Kamipro – said that Barboza could be the opponent of Gomi in the “wonderful city”.
Gomi has had an up and down career with the Las Vegas based promotion, defeating Tyson Griffin and losing out to Kenny Florian and Clay Guida. He will be under pressure to win this one after losing last time out.
Barboza has made an exciting start to his UFC career, defeating Mike Lullo and Anthony Njokuani in impressive fashion. His fight with Njokuani earned him a share of the “Fight of the Night” bonus.
