That's according to Johnson, who voiced his opinion on a conference call today regarding his upcoming fight against Dan Hardy in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 24, this Saturday, March 26, 2011, from the Key Arena in Seattle, WA.
The behemoth welterweight believes his "Rumble" with "The Outlaw" should have been given the top billing on the card on the strength of one thing -- STAND AND BANG:
"In my opinion that's why we should be the main event instead of co-main event cause we are the guys that's going to have to get the crowd on their feet and give them what they want and that's standing and banging."Who doesn't love two brawlers with heavy hands letting the leather fly?
Of course, there is always the potential for the fight to go the completely opposite direction. After all, avoiding those monster punches is a good idea for anyone not looking to cure their insomnia.
So what of the possibility of abandoning the kickboxing approach in favor of a ground-based attack?
"Hell nah. This fight ain't going to the ground. Man, you're talking to two guys that love to bang, plain and simple. We don't like that lovey-dovey stuff. We want to keep it on the feet, give everybody what they want and what they paid their money for."As Johnson so eloquently opines, the gameplan is simple and they will not forgo it in favor of a potentially smoother path to victory.
Because, apparently, no one would want to see that.
And does Dan Hardy agree? He sure does:
"I'm not going to go to the ground with Anthony. No, I'm planning on sending him there on his own."The banging Brit has a single ticket to Mat Town and he clearly plans on punching it for Johnson on March 26 in the "Emerald City."
