Speaking via FightHype.com, Shields said:
“I had been fighting up a weight for a couple years and didn’t have that long to make the cut. I really thought I could do it and it would be alright, but it turned out to be harder than I thought…In order to win the fight, I need to take the fight to St. Pierre…I want to end it early, but I’m ready for five rounds if necessary.”
Shields will be looking to impress in this one after failing to come up with the goods on his octagon debut and squeaking to a split decision win over Martin Kampmann late last year. Can he do the unthinkable and extend his impressive run of wins by defeating one of the best “pound for pound” fighters in the world?
