Cain Velasquez vs Alistair Overeem: It would be 'fun to watch' UFC and Strikeforce champions fight

March 12, 2011, was quite possibly the most significant day in the young history of the sport of MMA. If was on that day that Dana White announced the UFC had purchased their top competitor, Strikeforce.
One of the very first questions to arise from news of the sale was what would happen to the 140 some fighters contracted to the San Jose based promotion. We know they are Zuffa employees now but will they also become UFC fighters?
White dismissed that outright, repeatedly stating everything would be "business as usual." Still, it's difficult to ignore the possibilities now that nearly all of the world's top fighters are all under the same roof.
How can anyone avoid salivating at the thought of such mega-fights as Nick Diaz vs. Georges St. Pierre, "Jacare" Souza vs. Anderson Silva and Frankie Edgar vs. Gilbert Melendez?
One man that wants to see every one of those fights is Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, who said as much in a recent interview with Inside MMA. But the fight he really wants to see is a clash of heavyweight titans:

"[Cain Velasquez vs. Alistair Overeem] would be a lot of fun to watch. Alistair is our champion, he's our guy. I've followed his career since he was in Pride. Cain's a good wrestler, becoming a better striker. That would be a fun fight to watch, but I've got to take Alistair because he's our champion."

Hard to argue against that match-up. The current Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion, Alistair Overeem, against the current UFC Heavyweight Champion, Cain Velasquez.
The stuff dream fights are made of.
Coker thinks "The Reem" would bring home the proverbial "W" were the fight to ever occur, although he admits to being a homer in making his selection.
Of course, "The Demolition Man" is currently tied up with the heavyweight grand prix tournament that's been lost amidst the news of the historic purchase. He's still booked to throw leather in a rematch against Fabricio Werdum on June 18 in Dallas, Texas.
If he is to win that fight, a match-up against Antonio Silva, he who just destroyed Fedor Emelianenko, awaits him, with a spot in the tournament final on the line.
