Speaking during a press conference this week in Australia, Fitch said:
“It’s a huge honor for me to get a fight, a legend, that is B.J. Penn. And even bigger to win this and put myself in a position to fight for the title again. I’ve been chasing this title since my loss to GSP. … I feel if I can put in a fantastic performance here with B.J., there’s no denying a title shot.”
Penn was next to go and it was clear from the offset he thinks his opponent is perfect to re-establish himself at 170 pounds.“I got a great opponent in front of me. Jon Fitch has been the No. 2 guy in the welterweight division for the last 3-4 years, and it’s a great test. If it’s at 155 or 170, I feel pretty comfortable doing both of them. I really enjoy fighting at 170 right now. I can eat some food, I don’t have to cut the water.”
The two men will square off in the main event of UFC 127 on February 27th in Sydney, Australia, an event which will also see UK hopeful, Michael Bisping return Down Under to battle dangerous veteran, Jorge Rivera in the co-main event of the evening. Stay tuned to MMABay for more build-up to this one as we get it.
