The next installment of the prospects-driven Strikeforce Challengers series is set for Feb. 18.
As expected, officials have announced that Strikeforce Challengers 14 features a lightweight headliner between undefeated Lyle Beerbohm (15-0 MMA, 3-0 SF) and Pat Healy (25-17 MMA, 1-1 SF).
The Showtime-televised fight card takes place at Cedar Park Center in Cedar Park, Texas, a suburb of the state's capitol, Austin.
As MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) reported this past week, the event also is expected to feature Ryan Couture (1-0 MMA, 1-0 SF), though officials did not announce his participation or opponent.
Strikeforce Challengers 14 tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, and a presale for "Strikeforce Insider" e-newsletter subscribers begins Thursday.
Beerbohm and Healy may be fighting for a title shot with current champ Gilbert Melendez.
Beerbohm brings his perfect record to the Strikeforce cage for the fourth time. Head of the Washington-based Fancy Pants Fight Team, Beerbohm fought most recently under the Strikeforce banner at this past May's "Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery" event, where he earned a split-decision win over the highly touted Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro. Not one to sit around, Beerbohm has since earned another two wins for the Washington-based Rumble on the Ridge promotion.
"I want to fight the best," Beerbohm stated. "I want to fight for the Strikeforce title. All I can do is continue to work hard and beat who they put in front of me. This is going to be a very difficult fight for both of us, but I'm confident of winning and moving up the ranks."
Meanwhile, Healy looks to bounce back from a hard-fought loss in a high-profile matchup with ex-Strikeforce champ Josh Thomson at this past June's "Strikeforce and M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Werdum" event. The 10-year pro and UFC/WEC/IFL vet had won three three straight fights, including one over Bryan Travers at Strikeforce Challengers 8, and five of six overall before the submission defeat to Thomson.
