Robbie Lawler on facing Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza: “He’ll have no choice but to stand”

Strikeforce middleweight number one contender, Robbie Lawler has been speaking about how he plans on dealing with the submission game of current champion, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza when they meet this Saturday night in San Jose, California.
Speaking via Sherdog.com, Lawler said:
“He’ll have no choice but to stand. That’s what I plan on doing. I’m forcing him to stand and seeing how good his stand-up is. It’s kind of nice actually. I like being the underdog. I like being the guy who people think is going to lose and I want to prove them wrong.”
“I believe if anyone stands, it’s just a matter of time before I catch them. I believe I’m better on stand-up. He’s a really good athlete. He’s explosive. His takedowns are real explosive and he’s got a judo background. I just have to keep it where I want to and not make any mistakes and take advantage of it being on the feet.”
“I believe it’s going to be an awesome fight. Two guys, one guy not wanting to give up the belt and one guy going in there to take the belt. It’s going to be a battle.”
Lawler is set to battle the Brazilian submission wizard on the promotions San Jose card on January 29th, earning his shot after defeating veteran, Matt Lindland in just fifty seconds via TKO. Stay tuned to MMABay in these next few days as we bring you more build-up to this one as we get it.
