Paul Daley next on deck for "Diaz vs. Cyborg" winner in Strikeforce

Former UFC castout turned Strikeforce commodity, Paul Daley could be next in line for the promotion’s welterweight title.
Daley was featured on every headline of every major mixed martial arts forum when he was the victim of the infamous UFC pink slips, however all on his own doing. In a number one contenders bout where Paul was pitted against Josh Koscheck last May at “UFC 113: Machida vs. Shogun II” he dropped a unanimous decision to the brash American Kickboxing Academy product. After the fight, Daley stalked Josh and sucker-punched the former title contender and was then released by the promotion.
Now, his career has taken a complete 180, as he now may be gearing up for a title fight against potentially one of the biggest challenges of his career.
First, however, Daley will be taking a fight overseas in his native England against an opponent that has been yet to be determined. The Brit is working closely with Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker in gaining approval from the head honcho for his next opponent before he makes his return to the San Jose based promotion.
“Paul has requested to have a fight in the UK, and our deal with Paul we have to sign off on it, and we have to have an opponent approval,” said Scott who spoke with MMAWeekly.com earlier this week.
Along with the proposed UK fight, Daley is prepared to meet the winner of the upcoming welterweight title fight, which pits current champion Nick Diaz against former PRIDE star Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos (husband of Strikeforce’s women’s 145-pound champion Cristiane “Cyborg”).
“There’s a couple names and we’re going through that process with him. He wants to stay busy and he wants to fight the winner of (Nick) Diaz and Evangelista (Cyborg), and I think that makes a lot of sense,” said the CEO.
Diaz and “Cyborg” will meet next on January 29 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Cali.
